PRECAST CONCRETE ELEMENTS126 CPI %u2013 Concrete Plant International %u2013 6 | 2025 www.cpi-worldwide.comTie rods, only placed in the joints between the hollow core slabs, were screwed into threaded inserts within the Deltabeam, formed the connection between the hollow core slab floor and the Deltabeam. The disassembly process followed almost the exact reverse order of the assembly. After removing the safety fences, the first step was to open the steel ring around the hollow core slab floor by removing the steel edge beams and removing the joint concrete. The hollow core slabs were removed by first sliding the slabs horizontally for approximately 10 cm, then removing the joint concrete, and finally lifting them in a traditional manner using a lifting clamp. All components have been de-installed and are now ready for quality control and their next lifecycle. In this case, they are prepared for the second rebuild, with a focus on optimizing the joint concrete mixture %u2013 ensuring that the concrete properties are sufficient while still allowing for easy disassembly.ConclusionThe latest mock-up has demonstrated that design for reassembly works! By carefully considering the construction details, the structure can be assembled without the need for special or additional components.Furthermore, if the steel components are produced using recycled steel, and low-carbon binders are used for the hollow core slabs, buildings can be designed and constructed in a way that is Paris Agreement-compliant.The best choice for a low-carbon floor:%u2022 Precast elements produced with low-carbon raw materials%u2022 Minimized raw material consumption (design of the floor)%u2022 Zero emissions (ambition)%u2022 Use of low-carbon binders%u2022 Applied in adaptive buildings with flexible functional design %u2022 Floors with integrated beams%u2022 Combined with reused flooring elements%u2022 Designed for reassembly nLiterature%u2022 Fib Bulletin 88 %u2013 Sustainability of concrete structures (2018)%u2022 https://recreate-project.eu%u2022 World Business Council for Sustainable Development (wbcsd) - Net-zero buildings (2023)%u2022 PEIKKO WHITE PAPER %u2013 Circular economy (2023)%u2022 PEIKKO WHITE PAPER %u2013 DISMOUNT AND REUSE OF PRECAST CONCRETE FRAME Fig. 10: Removing the hollowcore slabs by sliding the slabs horizontally for approx. 10 cm.Fig. 11: Storage of the building components %u2013 prepared for the second rebuild.Fig. 12: Cross-section of a hollowcore slab.Related video of the Consolis VBI/ Peikko Benelux mock-up.Related video about the TechBank Enschede (former Temporary Courthouse) construction.
