CONCRETE TECHNOLOGYwww.cpi-worldwide.com CPI %u2013 Concrete Plant International %u2013 5 | 2025 81entire construction sites in Korea, the device makes a significant contribution to quality assurance as well as to cost and time savings, since every ready-mix concrete truck can be tested directly on site during unloading, without the need for a concrete laboratory. In October 2025, Imko will launch a new wireless version of its fresh concrete probe, Sono WZ. The device was already presented at bauma 2025 earlier this year and complements the previous solution with comprehensive features and graphical tools in a mobile app, which also allows sending measurement values with time and location stamps to a cloud. The underlying measurement method of the Sono WZ is based on a patented procedure that generates precise individual values within a fraction of a second. An entire concrete sample can thus be recorded, documented, analyzed, and permanently archived in just 2 minutes. This offers the unique possibility to detect trends at an early stage and respond immediately to deviations. This is particularly important in South Korea, where some construction sites must coordinate up to ten concrete suppliers simultaneously, both in terms of timing and in terms of the quality of the delivered concrete. Deviations from the agreed mix can quickly lead to serious problems, ranging from construction defects and subsequent structural damage to collapse even before completion of the construction project. When the Sono WZ was first presented at bauma in 2016, the focus was not yet on digital connectivity. Today, in the era of Smart Construction, comprehensive recording of construction site data is essential. Digital traceability is becoming increasingly important in concrete processing, particularly for quality assurance and the demanding use of recycled materials in high-rise construction. The device is very easy to operate and is used immediately after entering the bulk density of the mix. Following the measurement, the water content and the w/c ratio are immediately provided as output parameters, which represents a genuine innovation in on-site monitoring and quality management. nFURTHER INFORMATIONIMKO Micromodultechnik GmbHAm Reutgraben 276275 Ettlingen, GermanyT +49 7243 59210info@imko.dewww.imko.deFig. 2: Application of the TDR penetration method in South Korea.Table 1: Overview of approved measurement methods (excerpt; Park & Han, 2022)Drying, microwave Digitalised air content testCapacitance test (laboratory equipment)Mobile TDR probeTest duration 15 min 8 min 8 min 2 minSample volume small medium small largeLaboratory method yes yes yes flexibleMobile method no no no yesRelative measurement error up to 30,8% up to 2,1% up to 9,4% up to 1,1%
