In regions with high concentrations of aggressive ions, such as coastal areas, salt lakes, and parts of the Middle East, China, the USA and Australia, reinforced concrete can suffer from early cracking, spalling, and steel corrosion. The main objective of this technical committee is to enhance the service life of reinforced concrete structures exposed to aggressive environments by developing a standardized test method that evaluates performance under combined mechanical loading and exposure to sulphate and chloride ions. The committee aims to investigate how different types of salts, wetting-drying cycles, and mechanical stress influence steel corrosion and concrete deterioration. Additionally, it will study how the concrete%u2019s microstructure and transport properties evolve over time under these conditions.Carbon-based nanomaterials for multifunctional cementitious matricesRILEM TC 302-CNC explores the integration of carbon-based nanomaterials (CNMs) in cementitious matrices to enhance the performance, durability, and functionality of concrete. The main goal is to gather, analyze, and disseminate existing research on the effects of incorporating CNMs into cementitious systems. These nanomaterials have demonstrated significant potential in improving the mechanical properties (such as strength, ductility, and fracture resistance), reducing cracking, enhancing durability, and increasing resistance to permeability. In addition to these improvements, CNMs can impart innovative features such as electrical and thermal conAspects related to reinforcement corrosion (mechanisms, modelling and prediction, testing, prevention, service life management, etc.) has been at the core of many RILEM technical committees and have largely shaped the current understanding on the subject.
