PRECAST CONCRETE ELEMENTSwww.cpi-worldwide.com CPI %u2013 Concrete Plant International %u2013 5 | 2025Although Eurocode 2 Annex L in its current draft is specific to steel fibres, it provides a methodological basis applicable to MSF when validated by testing. The fib Model Code 2010 and its 2020 updates support performance-based design for all fibre types. At national level, Italy%u2019s CSLP guideline for FRC (2021) accepts macro synthetic fibres when performance is demonstrated, and Spain%u2019s C%u00f3digo Estructural (RD 470/2021) includes FRC within its scope, referring to UNE-EN 14889-2 for polymer fibres.International standards referenceIn the United States, ACI 544.4R-18 includes macro synthetic fibres within its scope, covering both steel and synthetic macrofibres. Section 5.5 specifically addresses precast units, noting their application in elements such as roof panels, tunnel segments, tanks and urban furniture. It recognises that while in certain load-bearing members full replacement of conventional reinforcement is not feasible, hybrid solutions combining steel bars and fibres are technically and economically advantageous. The standard emphasises the need to evaluate structural strength and fire performance in each case.ACI 533R-11, focused on precast concrete wall panels, allows for the use of alternative reinforcement systems provided that the design meets the strength and serviceability requirements of ACI 318. This opens the door to partial or total substitution of conventional reinforcement with fibres in appropriate panel types, subject to adequate testing and design verification.Digital analysis with CivilMapeiThe sectional analysis module in CivilMapei allows modelling of concrete, conventional reinforcement and fibres as a composite section. By entering dosage and mechanical performance from EN 14651 or ASTM C1609 tests, the program Screenshot from CivilMapei calculation toolMAPEI SOLUTIONSFOR SUSTAINABLEPRECAST CONCRETE.
