In contrast to temperature and weight measurements, where the measuring medium does not influence the result, the measurement signals in indirect moisture determination behave differently depending on the material and therefore affect the outcome.For this reason, moisture sensors must be calibrated or trained on-site under the specific conditions and with the actual materials used in order to determine the exact moisture content accurately. As processors in both the testing device and the connected end devices now provide extensive storage capacity and high computational performance, a large number of individually configurable calibration curves can be stored. This allows compensation for dielectric variations in regional raw materials, thereby improving measurement precision.The calibration curves created can also be selected via a simple export function, so that they can then be easily transferred to end devices within a user or factory network. Over time, it has become evident that different models of testing devices can be advantageous depending on the specific practical application.For example, some testing devices are integrated into a robust 15-liter polymer bucket (Figure 1), while others are designed as insertion-type measuring probes (Figure 2). The function and operation are largely identical; the differences primarily account for the individual usage preferences of the operators.In summary, digital moisture measurement methods for concrete and its raw materials provide a precise, fast, and practical basis for quality assessment.
