It remains firmly bound and cannot escape again over very long periods of time.\The aim is rapid applicabilityCoordinated by an industry partner, the research teams are not only developing new materials in the laboratory. The central goal is to ensure that the concrete bound with these materials can be used as an actual building material in the near future. KIT plays an important role in this: \learning strategies and structural mechanics models to investigate how the binding agent behaves in concrete, how we can optimally compose the concrete, and how it performs in actual use,\in real, large components.\A particular strength here is the close integration of simulation, experimental research and large-scale, realistic testing at the Institute of Material Testing in Karlsruhe. \simulations and machine learning to predict which concrete formulations will work. We then use experiments in a targeted manner to verify these predictions. In this way, we want to develop reliable characteristic values that show that concrete with the new binding agent is climate-friendly and meets the requirements for load-bearing capacity, durability and safety,\About C-SINCThe project is funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC) as part of the Pathfinder programme \and concrete as a carbon sink\to around four million euros over a period of four years. Of this, around one million euros is allocated to KIT %u2013 the only German partner in the project consortium and also the only German university funded by the EIC in the Pathfinder programme. For more than four decades, Rudi shaped our company with his expertise, his passion and his loyalty. Until the very end, he remained a reliable and valued contact for his national and international customers. Commitment meant everything to him. You could always depend on him %u2013 especially when it mattered most. Rudi approached every challenge with calmness, competence, and a clear focus on what was essential. For many, he was therefore the first person to turn to when it came to overcoming problems. Rudi gave us much more than that. With his warmth, helpfulness and lev el-headed nature, he enriched our working lives every day. He always had an open ear for everyone, could explain things without lecturing, and supported others with his experience and know ledge. His collegiality, his subtle sense of humour and his respectful way of dealing with others will remain unforgettable. We have lost a companion, an advisor and a friend. We look back on our time with Rudi with deep gratitude. His dedication and his remarkable personality will live on within our company and remain in our memories. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who were close to him during this difficult time. We will honour Rudi%u2018s memory.ObituaryRudolf BuynaWith great sadness, we say goodbye to our esteemed colleague, who recently passed away.
